Jeff Bridges to Star in "True Grit" Remake?

It could be a great "Big Lebowski" reunion! The dude is in talks with Paramount to star for his "Lebowski" directors, Joel and Ethan Coen, in their "True Grit" remake. He will play the John Wayne role that won the actor an Oscar in 1970.

As we told you back in March, the Coen brothers are lining up their "True Grit" remake before working on "The Yiddish Policemen's Union" for Columbia Pictures. (see original story right here)

The Coens will return with their "No Country for Old Men" producing partner, Scott Rudin. They are looking more towards the Charles Portis novel for inspiration rather than the original 1969 film.

The original movie was told from the point of view of Wayne's character, Marshall Reuben J. 'Rooster' Cogburn, but in the Coen brothers adaptation, it will be told from a 14-year old girl's point-of-view.

The novel is about a girl who's helped by an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman to track her father's killer.

I adore both the Coens and Bridges, so I'm looking forward to seeing their take on the classic western.

Ellen Page, Rainn Wilson, Liv Tyler Set for Superhero Comedy

Ellen Page, Rainn Wilson, and Liv Tyler are set to star in "Super," a superhero comedy. James Gunn, the guy who wrote "Dawn of the Dead" and the two "Scooby-Doo" films, and directed the criminally under-seen "Slither" wrote the script and is set to direct.

Production is set for December.

Wilson will play an average guy who takes on a superhero alter ego known as Crimson Bolt after watching his wife (Tyler) fall for a charming drug dealer. His super powers? Swinging a wrench at anyone who comes in his way.

Sounds charming, and the cast is great, but superhero comedies, especially the pseudo-superhero ones, never work! Remember the movie "Mystery Men" starring Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, Janeane Garofalo, William H. Macy, Paul Reubens, Geoffrey Rush, Lena Olin, Eddie Izzard, and Greg Kinnear? Great cast right? But the film failed to fly critically and commercially.

Get Ready to Sing Barry Manilow Tunes for New Film!

Barry Manilow writes the songs that make the whole world sing! That is essentially the plot of a new film featuring Manilow's songs.

And Manilow is getting help from R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe and Tom Hanks.

Stipe's Single Cell productions and Hanks' Playtone are teaming up to develop a romantic comedy that will use Manilow's songs.

The production has been given the go signal by the iconic Manilow, and now, the producers are going to take the project to Universal where Playtone produced the blockbuster "Mamma Mia!."

But this new Manilow-centric movie will not have the similar theme of "Mamma Mia!" where Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan suddenly sing to the tune of Abba songs to advance the plot forward.

The Manilow film will be a character-driven romantic comedy with intersecting storylines involving Manilow fans. They're all going to Las Vegas where Manilow will headline Mandalay Bay one weekend. Call it "The Hangover" for the Manilow crowd.

Of course, Manilow's music will star as one of the film's characters, and the singer will also perform a few songs.

There's no writer hired yet, but Variety says Manilow will help shape the project.

I told you, he writes the songs that make the whole world sing!

Michael Patrick King, writer/director of the original "Sex and the City" feature is returning, and he's begun shooting in New York with the famous quartet Sarah Jessica Parker, Catrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon.

The Warner Bros/New Line production is set to open May 28 of next year.

Mandy Moore to Voice Rapunzel in New Disney Animated Musical

Rapunzel, the Grimm fairy tale princess famous for her 70 feet of golden hair, is joining the ranks of the Disney Princess merchandise because she's getting her own movie, thank you very much!

And Mandy Moore is set to let her hair down for she's the chosen one to voice the princess in the planned Walt Disney Pictures Digital 3-D animated musical-action-adventure "Rapunzel."

Joining Moore is Zachary Levi, star of NBC's "Chuck." He will be the voice of the dashing bandit and Rapunzel's love interest. The plot revolves around the teenage princess running away from her captor with the bandit on her side.

Byron Howard and Nathan Greno are set to direct, and Roy Conli will be producing. The great Alan Menken ("Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin") will compose the film's music.

Once upon a time for a very long time, Disney has been trying to make a film about Rapunzel. The studio even unsuccessfully developed a project titled "Rapunzel Unbraided." But not until John Lasseter came aboard as chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios has the project been given new life.

"Rapunzel" is set to open during the holiday of 2010.
