Connor MacLeod Returns! Summit Announces "Highlander" Reboot!

Summit Entertainment, the home that "Twilight" built, has hired "Fast & Furious'" Justin Lin to direct "Highlander" the reboot! The studio wants a franchise!

Lin's producing partner for "Fast and Furious," Neal H. Moritz, will oversee production. "Iron Man" scriptwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are writing the script.

I enjoyed the original 1986 film directed by Russell Mulcahy. But it's unclear whether the original cast -- Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart -- will make an appearance for the reboot.

According to Variety, Summit plans to expand "on the original "Highlander" premise of immortals hunting each other through the ages. The new pic will center on the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, who must confront a murderous barbarian who lusts for a fabled prize."

Moritz is also producing the upcoming "Flash Gordon" and "The Green Hornet."

As far as the "Highlander" remake is concerned, no word yet on cast or production start date so stay tuned...For now, let's look at the trailer of the original 1986 film.

"Twilight's" Stephenie Meyer's Next Film That's Not About Vampires or Werewolves, But Aliens!

"The Host," the first adult novel from "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer, is set to become a full-feature film! Producers Nick Wechsler and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz have acquired screen rights.

Variety is saying that the producers have used their own money to purchase the rights. Wow, they must really, really love the book!

Andrew Niccol ("Gattaca," "Lord of War") will write the script and direct.

"The Host" is a science fiction/romance novel about an alien race, called souls, who take over Earth and its inhabitants. But the drama begins when one human host refuses to be taken over by a soul.

Here's more info about "The Host" from wikipedia:

The idea for The Host originated on a trip from Phoenix to Salt Lake City. Bored, Meyer made up stories to entertain herself, and was halfway through outlining the story of The Host in her head before realizing what she had created. She notes that the story grabbed her attention, and that she "could tell there was something compelling in the idea of such a complicated triangle." Originally meant to be a side project, The Host eventually became a priority.

The character of Ian was originally meant to play an extremely small role. As a matter of fact, Meyer had no plans for a romance between Ian and Wanderer until Jared "got on [her] last nerve", and Ian "refused to be ignored".

The title "The Host" comes from the perspective of the main character, Wanderer, because her "host" Melanie forever changes the way she sees the world.

So Meyer, at first, wasn't interested to turn the book to film, having been busy with her "Twilight" book-to-movie excursions. But the producers eventually won her over with a significant offer she couldn't refuse PLUS they have a strong vision for the project!

Additionally, Variety is reporting that Niccol came on board after the producers asked Meyer her favorite science fiction films. They just so happened to include "Gattaca" (Niccol wrote and directed that film) and "The Truman Show" (he wrote that Jim Carrey extravaganza).

Well it sounds like it's going to be a collaborative effort, so more power to y'all! Hope the movie is good :happy

"Bring It On" Set to Spread Cheers on Broadway!

I said: brr... it's cold in here
there must be some Clovers in the at-mos-phere

"Bring It On" is going to do its thing on Broadway for "Bring It On: The Musical!" The film-to-stage version is cheering the Great White Way in early 2011.

The planned stage version comes with great pedigree. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tom Kitt (Tony award-winners for "In the Heights" and "Next to Normal") will compose the music, while Amanda Green ("High Fidelity") will write the lyrics. "Avenue Q's" Jeff Whitty will write the book.

The choreographer of "In the Heights" and "9 to 5," Andy Blankenbuehler, will work as the director-choreographer. This will be his first time to get director-choreographer credit. Alex Lacamoire, also from "In the Heights," will be orchestrator, arranger, and music supervisor.

"Bring it On: The Musical" will be produced by Universal Pictures Stage Productions. The company also produced "Wicked" and "Billy Elliott."

I love the original film starring Kirsten Dunst, Gabrielle Union, and Eliza Dushku. But the stage musical will have an entirely new storyline although it will still focus on competitive cheerleading. This time, the plot will have an up and coming cheerleader who angers a fellow rah-rah girl when she oversteps her bounds.

I say brrr, it's cold in here, there must be some "Bring it On" Broadway production in the atmosphere!

"Bright Star" Movie Review -- The First Jane Campion Movie in 6 Years!

From “The Piano” to “In the Cut,” writer-director Jane Campion always puts strong women characters at the center. Whether she’s a mute woman like Holly Hunter’s Oscar-winning role in “The Piano” or Meg Ryan’s writing professor in “In the Cut,” Campion’s heroines are mostly disempowered women living outside mainstream society.
