"The Lion King 3D" Roars Past Competition for Second Straight Week!

"The Lion King" remained the king of the box-office jungle for the second week. The Walt Disney reissue beat out Brad Pitt and a sweet dolphin to climb to the top. "The Lion King" remained the No. 1 movie in America with $22.1 million. So far, the film has taken $61.7 million since its re-release.

The Brad Pitt Oscar-bait, "Moneyball" debuted at No. 2 with $20.6 million. Based on the book by Michael Lewis, the author who gave us the previous Oscar-bait "The Blind Side," "Moneyball" became the biggest baseball movie ever to open! (Chris Pratt talks about "Moneyball")

Meanwhile, "Dolphin Tale" was saddled with a strong family film competition with "The Lion King" reissue but still managed to garner solid business with $20.3 million, debuting at No. 3. I enjoyed "Dolphin Tale" so I'm hoping families will get to experience the film in the next coming weeks. (Check out my "Dolphin Tale" movie review right here)

Taylor Lautner's first solo starring role, "Abduction," debuted at No. 4 with $11.2 million. Not the greatest opening, but Lionsgate should be able to recoup its investment with the action-thriller.

I Love this Dude! Chris Pratt Hits a Homerun with "Moneyball!" Check Out My Interview with the Actor!

“Moneyball” is a fantastic film about the Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane, played by Brad Pitt. But it’s not just about baseball, it’s a revolution, much like Sony’s “The Social Network” last year. The studio is releasing “Moneyball” this fall, and yes, it’s an Oscar-bait. And deservingly so.

In the film, Chris Pratt plays Scott Hatteberg and he hits a homerun! I enjoyed talking to the actor who is also appearing on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. In this interview, we talked about:

*** His attraction to working on the film
*** His character
*** Working with a great cast
*** Baseball!

HAVE FUN!

Here's more info on "Moneyball" from Yahoo:

Billy Beane was once a would-be baseball superstar who, stung by the failure to live up to expectations on the field, turned his fiercely competitive nature to management. Heading into the 2002 season, Billy faces a dismal situation: his small-market Oakland A's have lost their star players (again) to big market clubs (and their enormous salaries) and is left to rebuild his team and compete with a third of their payroll. Driven to win, Billy takes on the system by challenging the fundamental tenants of the game. He looks outside of baseball, to the dismissed theories of Bill James, and hires Peter Brand, a brainy, number-crunching, Yale-educated economist. Together they take on conventional wisdom with a willingness to reexamine everything and armed with computer driven statistical analysis long ignored by the baseball establishment. They reach imagination-defying conclusions and go after players overlooked and dismissed by the rest of baseball for being too odd, too old, too injured or too much trouble, but who all have key skills that are universally undervalued. As Billy and Peter forge forward, their new methods and roster of misfits rile the old guard, the media, the fans, and their own field manager, who refuses to cooperate. Ultimately this experiment will lead not only to a change in the way the game is played, but to an outcome that would leave Billy with a new understanding that transcends the game and delivers him to a new place.
