"Paranormal Activity" Director to Explore Area 51!

This is one of the most exciting news I've heard recently. Oren Peli, the writer-director of the much talked about "Paranormal Activity," has already booked a start date and the financing for his follow-up.

An exploration into the horrors of Area 51. Ooooohhhhhhhhh....

Variety tells us, "He starts production next week on "Area 51," which will employ the "found footage" narrative structure of his last film and tell the story of three teens whose curiosity leads them to the notorious "Area 51" part of Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert."

"Paranormal Activity" cost just $11,000; with his Area 51 project, Peli will be working with a $5 million budget! Still relatively cheap with how much Hollywood spends their filmmaking dime these days.

Alien conspiracy lovers are excited about this film. And for all of you who haven't seen "Paranormal Activity," you can still demand it to come to your town! Just go to http://www.paranormalmovie.com/

"Voltron" Fans Rejoice! Plans to Expand the Toy Brand!

United Talent Agency is expanding the "Voltron" brand and is partnering with its U.S. rights-holder World Events Productions.

One their plans is getting a deal on an animated cable series. Of course, video games and toy deals are to follow.

There's also a feature film being planned with Charles Roven's Atlas Entertainment and Jason Netter's Kickstart Productions. UTA is currently looking for a writer for the film, and will begin shopping the project to studios.

The whole point is that UTA and company are hoping "Voltron" will be as successful as "Transformers." Hollywood Reporter tells us that the pitch for "Voltron" allows for human-centric stories.

Some of Roth's revelations were:

*** He's planning to finish the script for "Endangered Species" this month. Roth is also planning to direct the sci-fi project

*** He's also writing a script for the horror flick "Thanksgiving," which originally appeared as a fake movie trailer that ran between Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's "Grindhouse."

*** Roth will be directing, producing, and possibly acting in "Thanksgiving"

*** He will be presenting the exorcism movie "Cotton" by director Daniel Stamm to Sundance in two weeks

*** Roth is also developing the martial arts flick "The Man With the Iron Fist" with rapper-turned-director Robert Fitzgerald Diggs set to helm. Diggs is more commonly known as the rapper RZA.

Some exciting plans there Roth! See what happens when you leave the "Hostel" franchise behind? :happy

"Arrested Development" creator Mitchell Hurwitz and his co-executive producer James Vallely are working on a script for the big-screen version of the popular show.

Imagine, the production company behind the TV show, and Fox Searchlight are producing the film.

The main cast of the TV show include Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Portia de Rossi and Jeffrey Tambor. It's still unclear whether all the cast members are going to star in the film.

Director Ron Howard, who was credited as one of the executive producer of the series, will not helm the movie. Hurwitz will be the one to direct the feature.

"Up in the Air" and "An Education" Receive Critics' Choice Seal!

"Up in the Air" and "An Education" have earned the Critics' Choice seal. This Critics' Choice distinction is given to new movies receiving a high Critics' Choice Ratings score in the weekly voting by the Broadcast Film Critics Association to which I'm a proud member!

"Up in the Air," from director Jason Reitman ("Juno") and starring George Clooney and Vera Farmiga, wowed audiences at the recently-held Toronto International Film Festival. The film is being touted as an Oscar contender! "Up in the Air" received a 99 rating from the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

Meanwhile "An Education" from director Lone Scherfig and writer Nick Hornby based on a memoir by Lynn Barber, received a rating of 94 from the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

The film is a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London and actress Carey Mulligan is receiving much praise for her Oscar-worthy performance!

Congratulations to the filmmakers of "Up in the Air" and "An Education."
