Uncut "Metropolis" to be Shown at the Berlin Film Festival

Without the heart there can be no understanding between the Hands and the Mind.--Fritz Lang

Those immortal words from the glorious "Metropolis" will be seen on the big screen again in its full, uncut glory!

The Berlin Film Festival will show the original cut of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" at a gala ceremony on Feb. 10.

The great sci-fi silent film, written by Lang and Thea von Harbou, is one of the most influential films in the history of cinema. It originally bombed at the box-office when it opened on Jan. 10, 1927.

So the UFA studio re-edited the film, took away 30 minutes of the movie, and then re-released in eight months later to great acclaim!

The outtakes were considered long gone, but Variety is saying that in 2008, "a 16 mm negative of the original was found in Buenos Aires. The original has since been restored by the Murnau Foundation in cooperation with ZDF, Arte and the Deutsche Kinemathek."

And now, during the festival's 60th anniversary, the original cut that Lang intended will be finally seen.

Take a look at one of my favorite scenes in the film, Maria's (Brigitte Helm) transformation to the iconic robot:

Matt Damon, Josh Brolin in Talks for Coen Brothers' "True Grit" Remake

Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are both in serious talks to star in Ethan and Joel Coen's remake of "True Grit."

Coen Brothers Adapting "True Grit"
Jeff Bridges to Star in "True Grit" Remake?

Paramount Pictures and the Coen brothers are adamant that the new film is not necessarily a remake of the 1969 western that won John Wayne an Oscar, but a re-adaptation of the Charles Portis novel about a 14-year-old girl who's helped by an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman to track her father's killer.

Jeff Bridges has been negotiating to play the Wayne role, Marshall Reuben J. 'Rooster' Cogburn. Damon would take on the role that Glen Campbell played in the original -- a Texas Ranger tracking an outlaw. Brolin is in talks to play that outlaw.

Both Brolin and Bridges have worked with the Coen brothers before. Brolin, with his star-making turn in the fantastic "No Country for Old Men," while Bridges, in his iconic role of The Dude in "The Big Lebowski."

This is an exciting turn of events for this "True Grit" remake. I worship at the altar of the Coen brothers so I'm looking forward to this production.

By the way, if you guys haven't seen "A Serious Man" yet, go watch it now. It's classic Coen brothers, complete with a tragic figure at the center of the narrative. Michael Stuhlbarg will get a Best Actor Oscar nomination!

"Short Circuit" to be Remade by "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" Director!

Steve Carr, the director who gave us the Kevin James hit "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" has been hired by Dimension films to remake the 1986 sci-fi film, "Short Circuit."

They're calling this a robot reboot and will bing Johnny 5 into the 21st century. If you remember, the film is about Number 5, one of a group of experimental military robots, who develops self-awareness after being struck by lightning.

The remake's script is written by Dan Milano from "Robot Chicken."

The original 1986 "Short Circuit" film starring Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg was cute, but the one that I remember the most was El Debarge's hit song "Who's Johnny." Do you remember this video?
