The Super-Secret Joss Whedon Project! Could it Be Much Ado About Nothing?

I adore Joss Whedon! He created one of the best TV shows ever with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and his take on "The Avengers" looks very promising.

But this morning, to my surprise, there may be a new Whedon offering in the horizon by way of William Shakespeare!

Nathan Fillion, Whedon's partner-in-crime in the sci-fi series "Firefly" tweeted last night with a cryptic note, more like a link to muchadothemovie.com.

And when you go to the website, you see a black and white picture of a snorkeling guy, martini in hand, and the words "A Film by Joss Whedon" in the bottom.

According to The Wrap by way of The Huffington Post, the film is indeed made, and Whedon has adapted, written, and directed the movie.

Hhmmm, an intriguing news for Whedon fans everywhere!

Here's the press release for muchadothemovie.com from Bellwether Pictures:

Santa Monica, CA (October 24th, 2011)

Bellwether Pictures proudly announces the completion of principal photography on MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, a modern version of Shakespeare’s classic comedy adapted and directed by Joss Whedon (Marvel’s upcoming THE AVENGERS, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”). Filmed in just 12 days entirely on location in exotic Santa
Monica, the film features a stellar cast of beloved (or soon to be beloved) actors – some of them veterans of Shakespearean theater, some completely new to the form. But all dedicated to the idea that this story bears retelling, that this dialogue is as fresh and
intoxicating as any being written, and that the joy of working on a passion project surrounded by dear friends, admired colleagues and an atmosphere of unabashed rapture far outweighs their hilariously miniature paychecks.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING is the first feature from Bellwether, a micro-studio created by Joss Whedon and Kai Cole for the production of small, independent narratives for all media, embracing a DIY ethos and newer technologies for, in this particular case, a
somewhat older story.

Shot in glorious black and white by Jay Hunter (PAPER HEART, “Dollhouse”), the film stars Amy Acker (CABIN IN THE WOODS, “Alias”) and Alexis Denisof (“How I Met Your Mother”, “Angel”) as Beatrice and Benedick, the world’s least likely lovers headed for their inevitable tumble into love. As Joss Whedon puts it: “The text is to me a deconstruction of the idea of love, which is ironic, since the entire production is a love letter – to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in.” The supporting cast includes Nathan Fillion (“Castle”, WAITRESS) as Dogberry, Clark Gregg (AVENGERS,
IRON MAN) as Leonato, Fran Kranz (CABIN IN THE WOODS, “Dollhouse”) as
Claudio and Reed Diamond (“Franklin & Bash”, MONEYBALL) as Don Pedro.

The film was produced by Whedon, line-produced by Nathan Kelly and M. Elizabeth Hughes, and co-produced by Kai Cole and Danny Kaminsky. The super-impressive cast is listed below. Full tech credits (for the extraordinary crew) will be up shortly. The film
should be completed by early spring and headed for the festival circuit, because it is fancy.

"Paranormal Activity 3" also beat the record previously held by another Paramount film, "Jackass 3D" which had the biggest opening ever for an October release.

Not anymore. Sorry "Jackass" folks, but Katie and Kristi and their invisible friend Toby are now the box-office champs!

Falling to the No. 2 spot is "Real Steel." The Hugh Jackman-actioner made $11.3 million, and so far has sold $153.3 million in box-office tickets worldwide!

But the bright, shining light at the box-office universe is the psychological thriller "Martha Marcy May Marlene." Buoyed by the strong performance of Elizabeth Olsen, the film made $137,541 in just four screens in New York and Los Angeles! That's $34,385 per screen y'all! Congrats!

"Paranormal Activity 3" Movie Review -- How Many Demonic Kisses Does the Movie Deserve?

The first “Paranormal Activity” intrigued me, the sequel scared me, and the third made me believe in the potency of the franchise. All three films invite us to use our imagination which makes the journey far scarier. No gore, just good-old fashioned thrills.

Oren Peli wrote and directed the first film with a production budget of $15,000. The movie went on to earn $108 million and became one of the most profitable series in cinema history. The doomed relationship between Katie (Katie Featherston) and Micah (Micah Sloat) was explored and we witnessed the paranormal activity inside a house in Carlsbad, CA. Read More...
