Back in September, we told you that Columbia Pictures is revving up for "Ghost Rider 2."
Today, MTV News has reported that the franchise will not get an overhaul (a reboot if you may), but the tone is going to shift!
David Goyer ("Batman Begins") is toning down a script he wrote for a friendlier PG rating tone. Goyer tells MTV News:
"It's not exactly a reboot," said Goyer, who's currently hard at work on his "FlashForward" television series. "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"

Chuck Russell ("The Scorpion King," "Eraser") is working on a 3D re-imagination of "Arabian Nights." He will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Barry P. Ambrose.
The $70 million production is set to begin in April.
The new twist? According to Variety, the story follows a young commander who, after his king is killed in a palace coup, joins forces with Sinbad, Aladdin and his genie to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from dark powers.
So Sinbad and company will take a backseat for a young commander. Hhhmmmm...
Russell wants to take you on a magic carpet ride! He says, "Through the use of a new generation of visual technologies, we will be able to quite literally take audiences around the world on a magic carpet ride."

Gerard Butler will star in the film "Coriolanus" for first-time director Ralph Fiennes. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that the film is a contemporary version of Shakespeare's Rome-set politicial and family drama. Fiennes will also star in the film.
Butler will play Tullus Aufidius, commander of the Volscian army from Shakespeare's play. William Hurt, Eddie Marsan, Jessica Chastain, and Vanessa Redgrave co-star.
"The Last Samurai's" John Logan wrote the script. The production will begin shooting in Serbia in March.
So, instead of "This is Sparta!," Butler will say, "This is Rome!"

Katie Featherston a.k.a. Katie from "Paranormal Activity" becomes one of Hollywood's fastest rising stars of 2009 thanks to the horror film.
Now, an indie horror flick that she starred in called "Walking Distance" has undergone a name change to "Experimental Activity."
You gotta be kidding me!
But, the name change sort of makes sense because the film is about a small town that is subject to a government medical experiment.
Although we all know that the name change is because of the hit film "Paranormal Activity."
"Experimental Activity" also stars Adrienne King from the first two "Friday the 13th" films from the 80s.

My favorite film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” is the 1951 version starring Alastair Sim. Directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and adapted by Noel Langley, the movie captured the dark yet whimsical tone of Dickens’ classic.
“Disney’s A Christmas Carol,” the new animated film from writer-director Robert Zemeckis, tried to reinvigorate one of the greatest Christmas stories ever told. Though Zemeckis failed to find the right balance between the dark and the whimsical, I still applaud the movie for being faithful to Dickens’ work.
The film is very faithful indeed, that some of the images may terrify little children. Let’s face it, Dickens’ 1843 novella was intended for adults. So Walt Disney Pictures is in a quandary. They are marketing an animated film to children that will ultimately scare them. Read More...
