Hilary Swank Talks About "Conviction!"

I love Hilary Swank! The two-time Academy Award winner is a down-to-earth and sweet person! I interviewed her for “Amelia” last year, and this year, I chatted with her for her new film “Conviction.” Swank plays the true-life character of Betty Anne Waters, a working mother whose love for her wrongfully convicted brother is so deep that she will do anything to help set him free.

The ensemble cast is great headed by Swank and Sam Rockwell who plays her brother, Kenny. Minnie Driver, Juliette Lewis, and Melissa Leo complete the cast.

In this interview, Swank and I talked about:

• What got her interested in the film both as an actress and as an executive producer?
• What’s her attraction to true-life stories?
• How did she prepare for the role?
• How did she pick the actors to work with?

Written by Pamela Gray and directed by Tony Goldwyn, “Conviction” is out in theaters right now.

"Megamind" Movie Review! How Many Kisses do Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt Get?

DreamWorks Animation’s “Megamind” continues the tradition started by Pixar’s “The Incredibles” and perfected by Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.” All these films bend superhero notions and question the true meaning of being a hero and a villain.

The hero in “Megamind” is the film’s villain. Will Ferrell voices the lead role, a skinny blue-skinned alien with a very big head. His life-long archenemy is Metro Man (Brad Pitt channeling the commanding voice of George Clooney) who is really a Superman knockoff. Read More...

Robert Zemeckis Said No to Directing "Superman?" Sour Grapes?

We all know by now that Zack Snyder is going to direct the brand new "Superman" movie from producer Christopher Nolan.

We also knew about the array of directors being talked about to helm the Man of Steel film such as Darren Aronofsky (my personal choice), Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, and Duncan Jones (See Who Wants to be the Next "Superman" director? Darren Aronofsky Maybe?).

But what we didn't know was that Robert Zemeckis was also once upon a time listed as one of the hopefuls. So when MTV News asked the "Back of the Future" director, he downplayed his rumor involvement. Of course!

His answer? "I passed on that faster than a speeding bullet." But obviously, he wasn't more powerful than a locomotive, er, Snyder to get the director part.

Zemeckis further elaborated, "When they asked if I wanted to make the, what is it, seventeenth version of 'Superman,' I said, 'No, I don't think so."

Check out the complete MTV News interview below:

Baz Luhrmann is Looking for His Daisy Buchanan in "The Great Gatsby"

Baz Luhrmann may turn to F. Scott Fitzgerald for his follow-up to the under-performing "Australia." Deadline is reporting that the director will commit to working on Sony's "The Great Gatsby" if he finds his right Daisy Buchanan. Based on the Fitzgerald novel, Luhrmann co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce.

Some of the actresses being talked about for the role are Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams and Scarlett Johansson. "The Town's" Rebecca Hall is also in the running and she has read with Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway.

DiCaprio and Maguire in a film together? Luhrmann directing? A very meaty part? It certainly is an actress' dream!

Mia Farrow played the part in the 1974 Jack Clayton version where Robert Redford played Jay Gatsby and Sam Waterston starred as Nick Carraway. But before you guys get excited, it's still not sure if DiCaprio and Maguire will be starring in the film. Darn.
