James Bond -- Box-Office King

"Skyfall," the 23rd James Bond adventure, had a franchise record box-office weekend! The Daniel Craig starrer from director Sam Mendes easily took the top spot with a $90 million opening including Thursday night IMAX previews.

"Skyfall's" box-office muscle is a fitting way to celebrate James Bond's 50th anniversary. And yes, the film is one of the best Bond movie...ever! ("Skyfall" movie review)

"Lincoln," Steven Spielberg's homage to our beloved president, had a great start in limited release. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, "Lincoln" sold $900,000 in just 11 theaters for a per cinema average of $81,818.

Previous weekend's box-office champ, "Wreck-It Ralph" fell to No. 2 with a still-respectable and still-huge $33 million. So far, the Walt Disney Pictures flick has amassed a total of $93.7 million.

Let's see how "Skyfall" does this coming weekend when "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" opens.

1. "Skyfall," $87.8 million.

2. "Wreck-It Ralph," $33.1 million.

3. "Flight," $15.1 million.

4. "Argo," $6.7 million.

Mark Wahlberg to Join "Transformers 4"

So apparently, it's all too real -- Mark Wahlberg will reteam with his "Pain and Gain" director, Michael Bay, for "Transformers 4." It was widely circulated that this casting was just a rumor, but it's all official now, we even have a press release (see below). But it can still change anytime. Plus, it awfully sounds like a promotion for their "Pain and Gain" movie more than anything else right?

Here's the full press release:

HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 8, 2012) – After an exceptionally successful collaboration on the upcoming “Pain and Gain,” Michael Bay has cast Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg in the highly anticipated “TRANSFORMERS 4.” The film will hit theaters June 27th, 2014.
“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on “Pain and Gain” and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” said Bay.

Bay will direct the next installment in the “TRANSFORMERS” series, which begins shooting next spring. From Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., in association with Hasbro, the film will be produced by Don Murphy & Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce, and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian.

Bay’s first “TRANSFORMERS” film was a box office sensation in 2007, opening at #1 and earning more than $700 million worldwide. His second installment “TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN” in 2009 grossed more than $830 million worldwide. In 2011, “TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON” was an even bigger hit worldwide, grossing more than a billion dollars to become the 5th highest grossing film of all time. To date, the franchise has earned more than $2.6 billion worldwide.

From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes “Pain and Gain,” a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson, and Bar Paly also star. The film is based on magazine articles by Pete Collins, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and produced by Donald DeLine, Michael Bay and Ian Bryce.

“PAIN AND GAIN” opens in theaters everywhere April 26th, 2013.

"Skyfall" Movie Review -- I Was Shaken AND Stirred!

The idea of Sam Mendes, the director who gave us some thought-provoking films such as “American Beauty,” “Revolutionary Road,” and the criminally-underseen “Away We Go,” crafting a Bond movie raises some pertinent questions like can he pull it off?

I’m happy to report that not only did Mendes pull it off, he created one of the best Bond movies in recent memory. The director created a perfect balance of action and drama to helm “Skyfall,” the 23rd James Bond adventure. Read More...
