"Button," "Doubt," "Frost/Nixon" Lead Golden Globe Nominees

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced its 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards and in the film category, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Doubt," and "Frost/Nixon" led with 5 nominations each.

Curiously missing in the Best Film category is "Milk" but its lead actor, Sean Penn, grabbed a Best Actor nomination. No one from "Milk" also received Best Supporting Actor noms, but Tom Cruise, yes Tom Cruise, received a nod for "Tropic Thunder."

Robert Downey Jr. also received a nomination for the comedy, well, he's deserving. But Cruise? Look, he was funny in the film, but I thought it was a cameo?

The Foreign Press sure love their Cruise, don't they?

Look, if you're going to make your nominations legit, at least nominate the cast of "Frost/Nixon" for supporting, or yes, "Milk" which was getting all the love from all these critics organizations.

At least the HFPA got their main lead actors and actress nominations correct, and I love that James Franco is nominated for "Pineapple Express." His performance was the soul of the film.

But the biggest crime the Foreign Press committed? WHERE'S "THE DARK KNIGHT?" Come on, the biggest blockbuster this year, was also one of the year's best! Ugh! I'm glad I'm not a member of the HFPA :happy

New York Film Critics Applaud "Milk" Loudly!!!

I am very happy one of my favorite films of the year, "Milk," is getting all these fantastic awards from various organizations.

This time, the New York Film Critics Circle gave their highest film honor, the film of the year award to "Milk."

Stars Sean Penn and Josh Brolin also won for best actor and supporting actor, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mike Leigh won best director for "Happy-Go-Lucky" and the film's star, Sally Hawkins, for best actress.

If you guys haven't seen "Happy-Go-Lucky" yet, please do! Hawkins' performance is infectious! She stars as a London teacher whose optimism brings joy to people around her! Hhhmmmm, just like me :happy

Oh heck, for now, click on read more to see the full list of New York Film Critics Circle winners! Congratulations to y'all! Read More...

Kate Winslet, Jerry Lewis, Clint Eastwood to be Honored at Various Fests
Various award-giving bodies are honoring luminous stars for reasons ranging from contribution to the world of cinema to humanitarian efforts.

First, the lovely and talented Kate Winslet who's excellent in two upcoming films, "Revolutionary Road" and "The Reader," will be honored with the Montecito award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on January 23rd at the Arlington Theater.

This is the second time Miss Winslet will be honored by the film festival. The actress was given the performance of year award in 2005.

Then, Mister Jerry Lewis will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Feb. 22 Oscar ceremony.

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the award "is given to an individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry."

And in my hometown of Palm Springs, California, Clint Eastwood will be honored with the Career Achievement award at the 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival on Jan. 6.

Eastwood crafted "Changeling" this year, which may give Angelina Jolie another Oscar nomination, and he also directed and starred in "Gran Torino" which may give the actor another Oscar acting and directing nominations.

By the way, "Gran Torino' is like a western flick set in a contemporary urban setting.
