"FROST/NIXON" Movie Review! How Many Kisses Does the Film Deserve?

When I first heard that director Ron Howard was planning a big screen adaptation of the hit Broadway play “Frost/Nixon,” doubts came to mind. How could a two-character study translate into the cinematic world? Wouldn’t the film be boring?

But all my doubts were erased upon viewing the film. Howard and company crafted a thrilling cinematic ride that is akin to watching a boxing championship. Read More...

Finally, "The Dark Knight" Nabs Top Spot in Critics Award!

As I've said before, I love "The Dark Knight." And I'm voting with my heart, that the Batman flick is THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR, not "so far," but OF THE YEAR!

So I was happy that the Austin Film Critics Association named "The Dark Knight" the best film of 2008, and not "Slumdog Millionaire."

I have nothing against "Slumdog" but I think too much hype can destroy its chances for the Oscars. Meanwhile, "The Dark Knight" is being overlooked for its comic book nature. But folks, strip all the latex costumes and comic book mythos off of the film and you'll get, an art-house movie about the eternal battle between good and evil!

PLUS, "The Dark Knight" is one of the few films this year that gets better with multiple viewings! One of them is "Wall-E" and the other? "Milk!"

AND, we are in synch with the rest of the winners! Sean Penn for best actor, Anne Hathaway ("Rachel Getting Married") for best actress, Christopher Nolan for best director and adapted screenplay with his brother Jonathan, PLUS, the Austin film critics ALSO love Taraji P. Henson from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

YAY!

Who Should Play Jacob in "New Moon?"
More drama in the "Twilight" paradise.

Taylor Lautner, who played Jacob Black in "Twilight" is said to be fighting to get his role back in the sequel, "New Moon."

The contender? Michael Copon! And apparently, Copon is feeling very confident he'll land the role!

Why not? Lautner is mysteriously absent from all the press release surrounding the sequel! Hhhmmmmm....

Meanwhile, Ben Barnes a.k.a. Prince Caspian is joining the fun!

According to MTV:

Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the "Twilight" fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose "New Moon" encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together.

Film Directors to Honor Roger Ebert

I've said this so many times! Roger Ebert was and is my inspiration! When I was in college, I perused his books to learn film criticism. He has a unique way of criticizing a movie without being condescending. He never talks down to his audience!

Now, as the old saying goes, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," the Directors Guild is honoring Ebert! The film critic is going to receive the 2009 DGA Honorary Life Member Award.

Congratulations Mister Roger!!!
