Bryan Singer to Direct "X-Men: First Class"

Twentieth Century Fox has confirmed -- Bryan Singer is directing "X-Men: First Class." Singer is returning to the franchise that he helped build. He directed the first two installments.

Variety tels us that the the "deal was made after the studio sparked to a detailed treatment he wrote for the film. Jamie Moss was hired to write the script, and the studio will move aggressively."

"This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn," Singer said. "There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from 'X-Men' will figure into the plot, though I don't want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain."

"X-Men: First Class" will feature young Xavier and Magneto, and will be a reboot of the franchise, if you may. Singer also said he enjoyed "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

Right now, the director's slate is getting full. He's been attached to the following films:

*** "Jack the Giant Killer" -- New Line is still working on the visual development of the giants

*** "Battlestar Gallactica"

*** "Excalibur" -- still working on the tricky rights issue

16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations

Nominees for the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) for both film and television categories were announced this morning. Michelle Monaghan and Chris O'Donnell announced the nominees at the Pacific Design Center's Silver Screen Theater in West Hollywood.

The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT, and 6 p.m. MT from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. Recipients of the stunt ensemble honors will be announced from the SAG Awards red carpet during the TNT.TV and TBS.COM live pre-show webcasts.

If you want to predict the acting categories for the Oscars, look no further than the results of the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Voted by actors' peers, the SAG award has closely resembled the winners of the Oscars in the past few years.

For example, the SAG award for best ensemble cast has matched the Oscar winner for Best Picture in seven of the last 14 years; The best actor winner has matched the Oscar winner in 11 of the last 15 years, and the best actress winner has matched the Oscar in 10 of 15 years.

The lovely Betty White is receiving the Screen Actors Guild Awards 46th Annual Life Achievement Award.

Check Out New "Iron Man 2" Trailer!
It's quite exciting! It seems like Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is back in his jolly but egotistical ways. I love seeing Mickey Rourke as the new baddie, and Scarlett Johansson as the mysterious Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow.

Oh yeah, the now-famous metal music technique used in the first "Iron Man" trailer is back!

Take a look at the new "Iron Man 2" trailer:
