My Fun Gary Oldman Interview for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," He Gave Me the Best Quote Ever!

I was nervous to meet Gary Oldman, I did not know how he would be in person, or gosh, how he would react to me HA! But to my surprise, he was funny, and was ready to play along. So we played, but we also ruminated on the excellent of “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.” Oldman gave a wonderfully subdued performance as George Smiley, the principal spy looking for a mole. It is fitting that he’s being honored at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival.

And Oldman gave me the best quote ever when I asked him how he was, he said, “I’m much better for seeing you!” Yay!

In this interview, we talked about:

*** How happy he was that the producers went to him “first” to offer the role of Smiley. Normally, the actor said, he was the second or third choice, but this time around, he was the first!
*** How did he make sure that his take on the famous George Smiley character would be different from performances by other actors who have played the role before?
*** Did he put on some pounds to play the character?

Colin Firth Talks About “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”

It was a blessing meeting Colin Firth, finally! I was supposed to meet him for “Mamma Mia!” but my plane was delayed. And so, by sheer force of will, I finally was able to meet the Academy Award-winning actor for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” and I was so glad! He was down-to-earth, humble, and smart in person. In the film, he plays the mysterious Bill Haydon, and you will not forget his character’s comeuppance.

In this interview, we talked about:

*** How did he get attracted to working in the movie?
*** “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’s” appeal, it’s a big blockbuster in the U.K.
*** The film’s cerebral quality that can be quite entertaining
*** Working with Director Tomas Alfredson
*** His character’s heartbreaking moment

Director Tomas Alfredson Talks About “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”

It was an honor meeting director Tomas Alfredson! I love “Let the Right One In,” the original Swedish version (okay, I enjoyed the American remake “Let Me In” by Matt Reeves too). But Alfredson is a master of mood and atmosphere and drama, and he brings his skills in his first English film, the gripping spy thriller, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.”

In this interview, we talked about:

*** What interested him in doing the film?
*** How did he make sure that his adaptation is different than the popular BBC version?
*** His experience in making his first English movie
*** This is the first of the Karla trilogy, are we going to see the last two?
