Helen Mirren to Receive Career Achievement at Palm Springs International Film Festival

Academy Award winner Helen Mirren will be presented with the Career Achievement Award at the 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Presented by Cartier, the Awards Gala will kick off the 2010 awards season on Tuesday, January 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and will be hosted by “Entertainment Tonight’s” Mary Hart. The Festival runs January 5-18, 2010.

Mirren is being honored for her "large and distinguished body of work," festival chairman Harold Matzner said. "Mirren is one of the most outstanding actresses of her generation and she delivers another fine performance in The Last Station.”

I love Mirren's performance in "The Last Station" and this is a great award in honor of her contribution. Plus, I'm proud of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, it happens in my neighborhood, and the folks behind the event know how to pick the much-deserved recipients.

For example, Mirren will join previously announced honorees Morgan Freeman ("Invictus"), Mariah Carey ("Precious") and Anna Kendrick ("Up in the Air") at the event.
