"Spider-Man 4" SCRAPPED! Tobey Maguire, Sam Raimi OUT!

"Spider-Man" fans, start sending nasty emails to Columbia Pictures!

The studio has scrapped plans for "Spider-Man 4!" Why? So it can make a younger, cheaper reboot!

Variety
tells us that "star Tobey Maguire and helmer Sam Raimi, who were both set for big paydays for "Spider Man 4," will no longer be involved in the franchise as Col moves forward with a high school-aged Peter Parker pic, which will bow theatrically in summer 2012."

Why is Columbia acting so haphazardly? Because the studio needs to move forward with developing "Spider-Man" films or the property will revert back to Disney/Marvel!

Columbia revealed last week that "Spider-Man 4" was on hold indefinitely, which prompted Paramount to move "Thor" to its original May 6, 2011 planned release date.

Variety further reveals:

The studio has long prepared for the contingency of "Spider Man 4" falling apart and already has a James Vanderbilt-penned script about a teenage Peter Parker ready to shoot. That film, which has no director or star attached, is now in preproduction. The new version will likely cost far less than a "Spider Man 4" given that Columbia, which has a mandate not to give away more than 25% of the gross, won't be paying the high salaries or gross points to returning talent.

This is lame, lame, lame! I think the reason why the "Spider-Man" franchise was successful was because of the great tandem between Raimi and Maguire. Now, our webslinging hero will be back in high school and will continue to ponder human problems.

Huh?

But Raimi seems to be taking it all in stride. The director says, "while we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job."

Raimi is probably tired of the franchise already, but still, count me out of the new "Spider-Man" flick. I ain't buying it!

Columbia is currently looking for a new actor and director for their planned reboot.
