
Yay! "Walang Hanggang Paalam," a film from the Philippines, my home country, won the Best World Showcase at the inaugural Soho International Film Festival! The festival "encourages new and seasoned filmmakers to create innovative and thought-provoking pieces."
Directed by Paulo Villaluna and Ellen Ramos, The gay-themed independent film has layers of love, betrayal, and forgiveness. The film stars Jacky Woo, Jake Roxas, Joem Bascon, and Lovi Poe.

"A Kiss of Chaos" nabbed the Best Showcase Feature Film Award for U.S. Director Ricardo Sean Thompson, with "The Godmother" taking Best Showcase Short Film Award for Director Lior Chefetz. The Best Documentary Award went to the gripping expose, "Burma: An Indictment" by Jeremy Taylor.
Director Fred Carpenter's "Just Like Joe" won the feature film audience award, with Turkish Director Tolga Karacelik's "Rapunzel" taking the audience award for short.
Keeping in the spirit of the festival, Australian Director' Zdenka Simandlova's "Defect" captured the Best Work In Progress Award.
Filmmakers from many other films including "One In The Gun's" Steven Man (lead actor/ executive producer), Rolfe Kanefsky (director/writer), Esther Goodstein (producer); "Throws of Passion's" Todd M. Jones (director), Jeremy Linden (writer/producer) Jonah Cooperman (producer); "Ice Grill, U.S.A.s" Greg Santarsiero, Mark Bernardi (co-director), "Non Con Un Bang's" Mariano Lamberti (director), Roberta Calandra (writer), Carlo Giuliano (actor); "Pastor's Kid" Dale Adriatico (writer/director); "Big League Chew", "A Cry Within's" Frances Lozada (lead actress/producer), Franky G (lead actor/director); "The Lesson Plan's" Eddie Duran (director), "Sunday Morning" John D. Roberts (writer/director) and "Pitik Bulag's" Arnold Vegafria.
Festival founders Jorge Ballos, Luis Pedron and Noli Parumog spoke emotionally at the conclusion of their first year. "To say we are proud of this inaugural group of filmmakers, is an understatement. In our eyes, every film which was selected to participate is a winning film. We are thankful to the filmmakers for trusting us to honor their creative expressions - from the features, to documentaries to shorts... each one brought something outstanding and unique to the festival. We look forward to many returning with their next projects in years to come."
The Festival also announced it's 2011 dates: April 20 - 24, 2011. "We are already open for submissions" say the founders.
