Movie Fans Friend "The Social Network" for Second Week; "Secretariat" Failed to Reach No. 1 at Finish Line

Movie lovers subscribed to the Facebook film "The Social Network." The David Fincer-Aaron Sorkin collaboration retained its No. 1 position for the second week with $15.5 million. So far, "The Social Network" has raised its 10-day total to $46.1 million. Landing at No. 2 is the romantic comedy "Life as We Know It" starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. It's really a dramatic story (of an orphaned girl!) turned into a feel-good romcom yarn. Sigh.

Meanwhile, many folks were betting on Disney's horse drama "Secretariat" to place first but alas, the true-life tale only made $12.6 million to debut at No. 3. The Diane Lane-John Malkovich starrer was heavily marketed toward the bible-belt crowd, and it showed strong support from the community but still failed to reach No. 1. Wes Craven, returning to both writing and directing (since 1994's "New Nightmare") in the serial killer thriller "My Soul to Take" failed to scare audiences. The Rogue Pictures film that wasn't shown to critics debuted at No. 5 with $7 million.

Here's the estimated Top 10 box-office films for weekend of Oct. 8:

1. "The Social Network," $15.5 million.

2. "Life as We Know It," $14.6 million.

3. "Secretariat," $12.6 million.

4. "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," $7 million.

5. "My Soul to Take," $6.9 million.

6. "The Town," $6.4 million.

7. "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," $4.6 million.

8. "Easy A," $4.2 million.

9. "Case 39," $2.6 million.

10. "You Again," $2.5 million.
