She has played an assassin and a vampire, and now, Chloe Grace Moretz can add telekinetic girl to her very impressive resume. According to Deadline, Moretz has been formally offered the role of "Carrie" by MGM, Screen Gems, and director Kimberly Pierce. This one is a remake of the Brian DePalma movie based on the first ever Stephen King bestseller.
Sissy Spacek carved a name for herself by playing the high school girl with dangerous powers in the original film, and I have no doubt Moretz will do justice to the role. We fell in love with the actress as Hit-Girl in "Kick-Ass" and we were mesmerized with her performance as a lovelorn vampire in the American remake of "Let the Right One In" called "Let Me In."
Moretz was also good in the Oscar-winning "Hugo" as the girl who helped unlock the secret. (Check out my fun interview with the actress right here)
"Carrie," the remake, is shaping up to be an exciting project. It has a strong narrative (thanks Stephen King), it serves as an allegory to bullying albeit I don't suggest bullying victims to burn their high school and kill all the students, heck, even destroying the town! In the book, Carrie White is supposed to be a bit obese, hence all the bullying, so I wonder if Pierce and company will stick to the character's description.
I also admire Pierce, the director who gave us "Boys Don't Cry," the film that catapulted Hilary Swank to winning an Oscar. Speaking of Oscars, Spacek received a nod with this role, will Moretz get one too?
Piper Laurie, who played the deranged, overzealous religious fanatic mommy of Carrie, also received an Oscar nod. Who should play the mommy in the remake? What about the role that John Travolta played in the original? The plan is to hire Moretz and then everything will fall into its right place. Once they have their Carrie, it's easier to put the puzzle together.
