Riz Ahmed is phenomenal in the new drama “Sound of Metal.” He plays Ruben, a heave metal drummer who is losing his hearing. The newly nominated Gotham Awards actor talks about his interest in making the film, finding the heart of his character, his Riz MC persona in the hip-hop group Swet Shop Boys, and what he learned about the deaf culture.
“Sound of Metal” is in select theaters nationwide and will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on Dec. 4th.
I love Olivia Cooke and you’ll enjoy her performance in “Sound of Metal” as the singer/rocker girlfriend of Ruben (Riz Ahmed). Take a look at my interview with the actress as we talked about her interest in the role, co-dependency, and working with Riz.
Paul Raci stars as Joe, the head of the deaf community group that Riz Ahmed’s Ruben becomes a part of. I sat down with Raci to talk about his interest in joining the cast, his deep backstory similar to his character of Joe, being in the Philippines, Subic Bay, during the Vietnam War, and the film’s treatment of the deaf culture.
Darius Marder makes his full-feature debut with “Sound of Metal.” I sat down with the newly-minted director to talk about his interest in making the film, writing with his brother Abraham, working with Riz, and his thoughts on the deaf culture.
