“Primetime Mother” is a dramedy infused with magical realism to tell the story of a Filipino mom (Meryll Soriano) who joins an exploitative game show to win money for her sick son.  Entertaining and thought-provoking, “Primetime Mother” is about the lengths Filipino moms go through for their family.

I spoke with director Sonny Calvento five years ago when his other fantastic short film “Excuse Me Miss, Miss Miss” premiered at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films and now, he’s back with “Primetime Mother.”  I spent some time with the filmmaker to talk about the genesis of the short film and what it means to be back in the Palm Springs Shortfest for a second time.
