It was such an honor to have interviewed Sheryl Lee Ralph.  I’ve loved her since she stepped onto the Broadway stage to star as Deena Jones in “Dreamgirls.”  Since then, Ralph’s star continues to shine even becoming the first black woman in 35 years to win an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for ABC’s “Abbot Elementary.”

This time, she’s co-starring in a film with Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, and Megan Mullaly called “The Fabulous Four.”  It’s about a group of friends who travels to Key West, Florida to be bridesmaids at a surprise wedding of their friend from college.  Drama and hilarity ensue.  From director Jocelyn Moorhouse (“Proof,” “How to Make An American Quilt,” “A Thousand Acres”), “The Fabulous Four” is fun and funny benefitting from its lead cast.

I spent some time with Ralph to talk about her interest in making the film, how she helped switch the narrative to strengthen her character and not relegate it to stereotypes, their camaraderie on the set, and what she hoped for viewers to get after watching the film.

“The Fabulous Four” is now out in select theaters.
