I was in the beginning of my South Pacific cruise with Holland America Westerdam when I got an invite to virtually interview the filmmakers behind “The Friend” and I immediately said yes!  I enjoyed the film which is perfect for everyone – whether you’re a dog lover, someone who loves love and friendships, if you’re grieving, or you enjoy films with academia twist.

In “The Friend,” Naomi Watts is grieving the loss of her former professor, mentor, friend, and ex-lover Walter (Bill Murray).  But then, the departed bequeaths his 150lb Great Dane to her.  What follows next is a thoughtful meditation on grief and grieving.

So, taking some time off from my cruise vacation is totally worth it!  The movie is great, and it was such a great pleasure talking to the filmmakers Scott McGehee and David Siegel.

Based on the book by Sigrid Nunez, “The Friend” is now out in theaters.  Make sure to see this feel-good film.
