Our Manny The Movie Guy dives into James Gunn’s fresh take on the Man of Steel, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. This isn’t another dark, brooding superhero film. Instead, Gunn takes us back to what we love about Superman: an “aw shucks, good old American superhero” who represents hope and optimism.

Drawing inspiration from the beloved “All-Star Superman” comic series, the Guardians of the Galaxy director crafts what Manny calls an immigrant story at its heart—about an outsider from planet Krypton who just wants to be like us and do good in the world. The film showcases Superman’s love for Lois Lane, his super-dog Krypto, and above all, his love for the world he protects.

While Manny notes the film can feel overstuffed with subplots and some jokes don’t land, he finds it “super-entertaining” and genuinely inspiring. With Nicholas Hoult delivering a compelling performance as the mega-billionaire villain Lex Luthor, this Superman promises to be a great start for the new DC Universe.
