I quite enjoyed watching “The Roses” just as much as talking to the great cast of the film.  A remake of the 1989 movie starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner and based on the book by Warren Adler, the film has Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch as Ivy Rose and Theo Rose respectively, a seemingly great couple perfect for each other only to find out that beneath the façade is the ugly and hurtful stench of separation and divorce.

I spent some time with both Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch to talk about their characters and the themes of “The Roses.”  These two great actors must be seen in the film.  Their sparring scenes are like tennis match games made in hellish heaven.

From director Jay Roach and screenwriter Tony McNamara, “The Roses” from Searchlight Pictures is being released on August 29th.

On the surface, the characters Kate McKinnon and Andy Samberg play in the new “The Roses” serve as comic reliefs.  But look closely and you’ll see layered characters imbued by the wit and charm of both actors.

In the film, McKinnon and Samberg play a couple who are close to husband and wife played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman.  Trouble arises when the latter couple decided to get a divorce.

I spent some time with both McKinnon and Samberg to talk about their characters, and what they hoped for viewers to get after watching the film.
