A super, super big congrats to Steve-O on a film that is funny and emotional in equal measure — a full final curtain call that made me laugh and cry. And sitting across from that smile, I gotta say it: the man radiates positive energy.

## The Moment That Hits Harder on Rewatch

With the film now on digital, I asked Steve-O what plays even funnier the second time around. His answer took me behind the curtain of the edit itself:

“I had the ability — it was a blessing — to be able to go into the edit bay and watch it before it was finished, and give feedback. I was also very proud that my notes were incorporated,” he told me. But one part of the film struck him more than any stunt: “The most striking thing to me was the opening sequence and the closing sequence… I think that’s something that makes Jackass really special — how much effort and thought and resources goes into the openings and the close.”

## 25 Years Later — Did He See This Coming?

I had to ask: back when Jackass was just getting started, did he ever imagine it would still be this monumental a quarter-century later? Steve-O admitted the scale surprised even him, but the appeal never did:

“I had a sense that it would be popular,” he said. “Jackass has always appealed to a very primal, instinctual [thing] — it’s inherently compelling… misfortune is compelling by nature. It appeals to our primal existence.” He pointed to *America’s Funniest Home Videos* as the cultural DNA Jackass tapped into — “deliberately filming America’s funniest home videos is a little bit what it felt like.”

## “This Is the Final Jackass Movie” — And He Means It

Jackass has said goodbye before. So what makes *this* the one he’s actually meaning it on? Steve-O didn’t hesitate:

“It was Knoxville’s brain,” he said. “Knoxville’s brain cannot sustain more blunt force trauma. And that’s why this movie is a hybrid of old footage and new footage.” He admitted he wasn’t sure how a film built from old and new material would come together — but it did, “so masterfully put together to celebrate everything,” decades of it.

## The Real Message of Jackass

Underneath the chaos, Steve-O got real about what actually holds the franchise together after all these years:

“The one thing that is constant throughout is the joy that comes through the screen,” he told me. “That’s the message of Jackass — the importance of joy, and finding joy in your life… and in your chosen family. We’re just deliberately joyful.” That joy, he said, is what he hopes audiences — old-school fans and brand new ones alike — carry with them.
