Director Edward Berger on Making “Ballad of a Small Player”
Oscar-winning director Edward Berger (“All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Conclave”) created a film in “Ballad of a Small Player” that is like a mixture of a mystery thriller with a Chinese folklore twist! In the film, Colin Farrell stars as Lord Doyle, a gambler on the slippery slope of life. He sees in Fala Chen’s Dao Ming his road to redemption, but is she really?
In this interview, Berger discussed his interest in making the film, working with Colin Farrell, the aesthetics of the film, and what he hopes for viewers to get after watching “Ballad of a Small Player.”
“Ballad of a Small Player” is now out on Netflix.
Colin Farrell and Fala Chen Talk “Ballad of a Small Player”
I simply adore Colin Farrell both as an actor and a human being. He’s always sweet to interview and very cordial. And he’s a great actor too! I love his chemistry with Fala Chen both on-screen and while being interviewed. You know he’s a gentleman and I bet, a good scene partner as well!
By the way, two years ago at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, he cupped my hand like I was a little princess and he did it again! Off-camera but I was so happy. I said, oh my gosh, you held my hand like a little princess again, and he said, yeah like two years ago. Awww, he remembered! His publicist said he does remember. So, I love him more!
