Justin Lin on Directing “Last Days”

Justin Lin has done comedies, documentaries, the “The Fast and the Furious” films of course, but he hasn’t made a biographical drama until now.  The film tells the true story of John Allen Chau, a 26-year-old Christian missionary who was killed while attempting to evangelize the isolated Sentinelese people on North Sentinel Island.  This one’s based on the 2019 Outside Magazine article “The Last Days of John Allen Chau” by Alex Perry.

That is the article that Lin said he read and inspired him to create the film.  In this interview, he explained his intent in making the movie – is it to humanize Chau, or to condemn him – and how he blended the different tropes of a mystery thriller, drama, and even a bit of romance to come up with “Last Days.”

“Last Days” is being released in theaters on Oct. 24th.

Sky Yang and Ken Leung on Playing Father and Son in “Last Days”

Sky Yang is fantastic as the real-life John Allen Chau in “Last Days.”  It maps how his family dynamics affected his desire to spread the word of God even to the prohibited North Sentinel Island with the isolated Sentinelese people.  Ken Leung plays his father, Patrick Chau.

In this interview, we talked about how Sky found the heart of John Allen Chau while Ken explained the family dynamics.  Pay attention to Sky and his passion!

Radhika Apte on Playing Fierce Police Officer in “Last Days”

I truly enjoyed talking to Radhika Apte about her role in “Last Days.”  She was equal parts sweet and knowledgeable about the inhabited world of the film.  And when I asked her what she wanted viewers to get after watching the film, she said “empathy.”  Awwwww.

Take a look at my interview with Radhika Apte who plays the Indian police officer Meera who is tasked with finding the missing American missionary.
