Director Shih-Ching Tsou Talk Netflix’s “Left-Handed Girl”

Shih-Ching Tsou learned from working with Oscar winner Sean Baker (“Anora,” “The Florida Project,” “Tangerine”) in the 2004 film “Take Out.”  Now, Baker serves as writer/producer and editor of the film while Tsou is behind-the-camera as the director of “Left-Handed Girl.”  On the surface, the Taiwanese film is about a single mother (Janet Tsai) and her two daughters (Shih-Yuan Ma plays the oldest and Nina Ye is the youngest) relocate to Taipei to set up a noodle stall.  But look closely and it speaks volumes on family unity and the challenges of poverty.

In this interview, Tsou talks about her interest in making “Left-Handed Girl” her feature film debut, working with her cast, and what she learned from working with Sean Baker that she applied onto making “Left-Handed Girl.”

“Left-Handed Girl” is being released on Netflix on November 26th.

Nina Ye and Shih-Yuan Ma Talk “Left-Handed Girl”

Nina Ye and Shih-Yuan Ma are fantastic as siblings in Netflix’s “Left-Handed Girl.”  I spent some time with the young actors to talk about their interest in the film, their characters, and what they hope for viewers to get after watching the film.
