Lucy Liu Talks About Her Career-Defining Performance in “Rosemead”
Lucy Liu gives an amazing performance as a mom torn between sacrifice and her love for her son in “Rosemead.” Based on a true story, Liu is a terminally ill Chinese immigrant mother who uncovers her teenage son’s violent obsessions and takes desperate measure to protect him and others.
Based on the 2017 Los Angeles Times article “A dying mother’s plan: Buy a gun. Rent a hotel room. Kill her son.” by Frank Shyong, Eric Lin’s feature film debut is at times harrowing and haunting. Liu deserves an Oscar nod!
In this interview, Lucy Liu takes us inside the making of the film, her interest in starring in the film, how she prepared (it’s all about the language she says), and what she hopes for people to takeaway from the film.
“Rosemead” is set to be released in select theaters on December 5 and a wide release on January 9, 2026.
