The Palm Springs actress, comedian, and co-writer brings her funny, fearless, and heartfelt short film to the Yucca Valley Film Festival on November 6, 2026.
Hollywood, honey, Selene Luna has something to say!
The actress, comedian, and writer is turning Hollywood’s obsession with stereotypes into something funny, fearless, and surprisingly heartfelt in her short film “Veronica,” which will be featured during opening night of the Yucca Valley Film Festival on Friday, November 6, 2026.
And for Luna, who calls Palm Springs home, it’s practically a desert homecoming!
I had the pleasure of sitting down with the fabulous Selene Luna to talk about her new film, her experiences in Hollywood, the power of representation, and why sometimes the best way to confront uncomfortable truths is to make people laugh.
HOLLYWOOD, YOU’VE MET YOUR MATCH!
In “Veronica,” Luna plays an actress who’s had enough of being treated like a punchline. Tired of stereotypical roles and an industry that struggles to see beyond conventional expectations, Veronica is determined to be recognized for something more.
It’s a premise that feels especially personal considering Luna’s own experiences navigating Hollywood as a performer who doesn’t fit the industry’s traditional mold.
And here’s what makes the project even more fascinating: Luna didn’t just star in “Veronica.” She also co-wrote it.
During our conversation, we explore the origins of the story, how much of Veronica reflects Luna’s own experiences, and whether the film might just be her delicious little revenge against Hollywood.
Because sometimes, the best revenge is a really good comedy!
A FABULOUS CAST WITH SERIOUS STAR POWER
“Veronica” also boasts an impressive ensemble featuring Katey Sagal, Margaret Cho, and Taryn Manning.
That’s quite a lineup for an independent short film!
With performers known for their distinctive personalities and memorable screen work, the film brings together a collection of talent that perfectly complements its irreverent spirit.
In our interview, we discuss the extraordinary cast and what drew these women to a story that challenges the way Hollywood defines who deserves to be seen.
LAUGHTER WITH SOMETHING TO SAY
What I particularly enjoyed about “Veronica” is that beneath its humor lies something genuinely meaningful.
The film explores the frustration of being underestimated, the desire to be taken seriously, and the courage it takes to demand a place in an industry that often prefers to put people into convenient little boxes.
It’s funny, sweet, and heartfelt, but its message about representation and self-worth gives the comedy an extra layer of resonance.
And that raises a fascinating question: Can humor change the way Hollywood sees people who don’t fit its expectations?
That’s one of the central themes of my conversation with Luna.
FROM HOLLYWOOD TO PALM SPRINGS
Of course, I couldn’t let Selene go without talking about our beautiful Coachella Valley!
Having traded Hollywood for Palm Springs, Luna has found herself in a desert community with its own wonderfully eccentric personality.
We talk about how living in the desert has influenced her creativity, her perspective on the entertainment industry, and the way she approaches her work.
And now, bringing “Veronica” to the nearby Yucca Valley Film Festival makes this screening particularly special.
