Hollywood moves fast. Manny moves faster!
Grab your coffee, movie lovers, because Hollywood is serving up a delicious mix of movie magic, superhero scares, behind-the-scenes drama, and a Beatle who isn’t afraid to speak his mind!
Greta Gerwig is taking us back to Narnia, DC is betting on body horror, Robert Pattinson’s Batman sequel is hitting an unexpected pause, and Sir Paul McCartney has a very specific complaint about his upcoming movie counterpart.
Plus, Ben Affleck is revisiting one of the darkest chapters of his superhero career.
Welcome to your Wednesday edition of MANNY’S MOVIE MINUTE!
1. GRETA GERWIG OPENS THE DOOR TO NARNIA — AND IT’S EPIC!
The director has unveiled the first look at Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, her highly anticipated adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ fantasy universe.
And rather than retelling The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Gerwig is taking us all the way back to the origins of Narnia.
The adventure follows two children, Digory and Polly, who discover extraordinary worlds beyond their own.
Daniel Craig plays the mysterious magician Andrew Ketterley, Emma Mackey portrays Jadis, and Meryl Streep provides the voice of Aslan.
Even the trailer’s soundtrack is making headlines, featuring Led Zeppelin’s legendary “Stairway to Heaven.”
But perhaps the biggest surprise is Netflix’s theatrical commitment. The reported $280 million production will arrive in theaters February 12, 2027, before streaming on Netflix April 2.
MANNY’S TAKE: Greta Gerwig understands that spectacle means nothing without emotion. After Barbie and Little Women, I’m fascinated to see how she balances fantasy, faith, and childhood wonder. And thank goodness Netflix is giving this one a proper big-screen experience!
2. CLAYFACE IS GETTING UNDER HOLLYWOOD’S SKIN!
Forget the capes and heroic speeches. DC Studios is embracing the grotesque!
Clayface, the R-rated psychological body-horror movie set in Gotham City, held its Los Angeles premiere Tuesday night, and early reactions are generating considerable excitement.
Directed by James Watkins, the approximately $40 million production stars Tom Rhys Harries as the disfigured title character, with Naomi Ackie playing a scientist.
Rather than following the traditional superhero formula, the film reportedly leans into disturbing transformations, psychological terror, and tragic character drama.
And with its comparatively modest budget, Clayface could become a significant test of DC’s willingness to experiment with different genres.
MANNY’S TAKE: This is exactly what comic-book movies need: creative risks! Not every DC story has to be about saving the universe. Sometimes the most fascinating monster is the one struggling to hold on to his humanity.
3. THE BATMAN PART II HITS THE PAUSE BUTTON!
What’s happening in Gotham City?
Robert Pattinson has revealed that filming on The Batman Part II will pause temporarily following director Matt Reeves’ decision to step away for a family matter.
The news comes as anticipation continues to build for the next chapter of Pattinson’s darker, detective-driven Batman saga.
Reeves helped reinvent the character with a gritty approach that emphasized crime, corruption, and psychological tension over traditional superhero spectacle.
For now, the pause doesn’t necessarily mean the film’s creative direction is changing. But it does introduce uncertainty around the production schedule.
MANNY’S TAKE: Matt Reeves is the creative heartbeat of this Batman universe. I’d rather have him return when he’s ready than see the production rush ahead without the filmmaker who made this version of Gotham so compelling.
4. PAUL McCARTNEY HAS A BONE TO PICK WITH THE BEATLES MOVIES!
All you need is love… and apparently, the right height!
Sir Paul McCartney has raised a rather amusing objection to Sam Mendes’ ambitious four-film Beatles project.
His complaint? Paul Mescal, who plays McCartney, is shorter than the actor portraying John Lennon.
McCartney reportedly even texted Mendes to point out the discrepancy!
The unusual project will tell the Beatles’ story through four interconnected movies, with each member of the legendary band receiving his own cinematic perspective.
MANNY’S TAKE: I love that Paul McCartney is concerned about the details! But height differences aside, the real challenge is capturing the chemistry, cultural revolution, and musical genius that made the Beatles immortal. Four movies? That’s a lot of cinematic love!
5. BEN AFFLECK CALLS JUSTICE LEAGUE A CAREER LOW POINT!
Even Batman has regrets.
Ben Affleck is opening up about his experience making 2017’s Justice League, describing the troubled production as one of the lowest points of his professional life.
The superhero ensemble famously endured extensive reshoots and a change in directors, resulting in a movie that became a lightning rod for fan criticism and behind-the-scenes controversy.
Affleck’s latest remarks offer another reminder that making a blockbuster doesn’t always mean having a blockbuster experience.
MANNY’S TAKE: I’ve always thought Affleck had the presence to make a terrific Batman. The problem wasn’t necessarily the actor — it was a franchise struggling to figure out what it wanted to be. Hollywood should remember that even superheroes need good storytelling.
6. SCARLETT JOHANSSON AND SAM ROCKWELL REUNITE FOR RAY GUNN!
Two terrific actors. One visionary animation director. And a whole lot of retro-futuristic style!
Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell are teaming up again for Ray Gunn, the new animated science-fiction adventure from Brad Bird, the filmmaker behind The Incredibles and Ratatouille.
Set in a dazzling alternate version of the 1930s, the movie follows a private detective navigating a futuristic world of mystery, corruption, and larger-than-life personalities.
Rockwell voices detective Raymond Gunn, while Johansson plays glamorous star Venus Nova.
At the London Film Festival, Johansson praised the natural chemistry she shares with Rockwell, her collaborator on Iron Man 2 and Jojo Rabbit.
The film arrives in select theaters December 4 before streaming on Netflix December 18.
MANNY’S TAKE: Brad Bird and film noir? Sign me up! I love animation that isn’t afraid to be sophisticated, strange, and unapologetically cinematic. And Rockwell and Johansson are such a wonderful pairing.
7. NETFLIX CUTS 1,000 JOBS AS STREAMING WARS INTENSIFY!
Not all of today’s Hollywood headlines are cause for celebration.
Netflix is cutting approximately 6% of its workforce — roughly 1,000 employees — in its largest round of layoffs since 2022.
According to Reuters, the reductions will primarily affect technology, product, legal, and human-resources departments.
The company’s leadership insists Netflix remains financially strong, but competition for viewers continues to intensify as YouTube, traditional studios, and other digital platforms fight for audiences.
The cuts are another reminder that even Hollywood’s biggest entertainment companies aren’t immune to the changing economics of streaming.
MANNY’S TAKE: We celebrate the movies, the stars, and the filmmakers, but thousands of people behind the scenes make entertainment possible. It’s troubling to see the industry’s workers continue to face so much uncertainty.
8. TONI COLLETTE IS READY TO CALL THE SHOTS!
One of Hollywood’s most versatile actresses is moving behind the camera!
Toni Collette is set to make her feature directorial debut with The Best Of, an adaptation of Graeme Simsion’s novel.
The story follows former lovers who reunite after decades apart, confronting the complicated emotions that emerge when old feelings return.
The project has received backing from Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
MANNY’S TAKE: Toni Collette has given us unforgettable performances in everything from The Sixth Sense to Hereditary. She’s extraordinary at finding emotional truth in complicated characters. I can’t wait to discover what she brings to the director’s chair!
THAT’S TODAY’S MOVIE NEWS!
From the magical birth of Narnia to the disturbing transformation of Clayface, Hollywood is proving once again that audiences want stories that surprise them.
And while Batman faces another delay and Netflix confronts some difficult business decisions, filmmakers like Greta Gerwig, Brad Bird, and Toni Collette remind us that creativity remains the industry’s greatest superpower.
Because movies aren’t just about spectacle. They’re about imagination, emotion, and that wonderful feeling of being transported somewhere entirely new.
Keep watching, keep dreaming, and most importantly, keep going to the movies!
Hollywood moves fast. Manny moves faster!
