MANNY’S MOVIE NEWS NOW — Hollywood’s hottest headlines, breaking movie news, and a little cinematic sass!

Hello movie lovers! It’s Friday, and Hollywood is serving up a delicious combination of cyberpunk adventures, crazy-rich drama, horror favorites, and awards-season excitement.

I’ve rounded up the freshest developments for today’s edition, prioritizing stories breaking since yesterday. And there’s plenty to talk about!

Here are today’s biggest movie stories:

1. CYBERPUNK 2077 IS HEADED TO THE BIG SCREEN!

Paramount is developing a live-action movie set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, collaborating with CD Projekt RED and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Casting and release details haven’t been announced.

Manny’s take: Night City on the big screen? Give me neon, danger, and a story as dazzling as its visuals!

2. CRAZY RICH ASIANS IS COMING BACK!

HBO has officially ordered a Crazy Rich Asians drama series, with Adele Lim, Jon M. Chu, and Kevin Kwan involved. The blockbuster’s glamorous universe is expanding to television.

Manny’s take: More Asian representation, more family secrets, more fabulous outfits? Darling, I’m seated!

3. M3GAN AND THE PURGE GET NEW LIVES IN COMICS!

Blumhouse is partnering with IDW Publishing to bring M3GAN, The Purge, and Happy Death Day into comic books. The partnership also opens possibilities for adapting IDW properties for screens.

Manny’s take: Apparently, being terrifying in theaters isn’t enough. Now these horror icons want your bookshelves, too!

4. WILDWOOD BUILDS ITS AWARDS-SEASON MOMENTUM!

LAIKA’s ambitious stop-motion fantasy Wildwood is heading to the Animation Is Film Festival on October 19 and AFI Fest on October 21, following its London Film Festival showcase.

Manny’s take: In an animation world increasingly dominated by computers, handcrafted cinematic magic deserves its own spotlight.

5. GROMIT FINALLY HAS A VOICE — AND IT’S MARTIN FREEMAN!

After 37 years of silence, the beloved Wallace & Gromit dog is getting a voice courtesy of Sherlock star Martin Freeman. But there’s a twist: Freeman will narrate Gromit’s upcoming audiobook autobiography, not voice him in a new movie.

Manny’s take: After all those years of expressive eyebrow acting, Gromit finally gets to tell his side of the story!

6. MICHAEL SEQUEL GETS A MAJOR CALIFORNIA BOOST!

The sequel to Michael has received approval for $30.8 million in California production tax credits. A new Pixar film and an untitled Paramount thriller are among 35 projects receiving incentives.

Manny’s take: Hollywood needs jobs, and California wants to keep the cameras rolling. That’s a sequel worth watching beyond the box office!

Bonus: What’s opening in theaters today?

Friday’s releases include The Social Reckoning, Other Mommy, Animals, Misty Green, and The Jesus Tapes, among others.
