Audrey Diwan adapts the autobiographical book L’evenement by Annie Emaux and creates a Golden Lion winner at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. The film is called “Happening” and it’s a must-see.
The film tells the powerful story of Anne (the fantastic Anamaria Vartolomei) who is a young and gifted student in France circa 1963. But when she gets pregnant, Anne’s world is turned upside down and must choose between keeping her baby or confronting the shame, pain, and illegalities of an abortion.
I sat down with both Diwan and Vartolomei to know more about “Happening.”
“Happening” from IFC Films is now out in select theaters.
