“Desert Warrior,” the sprawling historical epic now out in theaters, promises to transport audiences to the treacherous sands of 7th-century Arabia. In a recent exclusive interview with Manny the Movie Guy, star Aiysha Hart—who plays the central figure Princess Hind—disclosed the intense, familial atmosphere on set and what it was like stepping into the role of a historical powerhouse.
The film, which chronicles a story of power, survival, and the unification of tribes, sees Hart starring alongside Anthony Mackie and Sharlto Copley.
From Princess to Warrior: Aiysha Hart’s Transformation
Speaking with Manny, Hart highlighted that Desert Warrior is not your typical romance or action flick. Instead, it is a coming-of-age story about a 19-year-old princess forced to flee her home, navigating extreme circumstances to become a leader.
“It was so nice to play this female character who is so empowered and impassioned and goes on such a journey,” Hart told interviewers. She noted the transition from a young royal to a determined figure leading her people to the legendary Battle of Dhi Qar.
A “Family” in the Desert
Filming in the unforgiving desert heat for over four months, the cast and crew formed a tight bond, transforming the high-stakes production into a family-like environment.
Hart specifically mentioned her fun, contrasting friendship with co-star Sharlto Copley. Despite Copley playing an antagonist who threatens her character on-screen, the two shared laughter off-camera, which Hart believes helped fuel their intense scenes.
Authentic Arabian Representation
One of the most emotional aspects of the project for Hart was the film’s commitment to authenticity. She emphasized the beauty of having local supporting artists and authentic Arab faces on screen, bringing depth to the depiction of the region’s history.
Desert Warrior is not just a film, but a “throwback to old Hollywood” that offers a perspective on Arabian history that global audiences haven’t seen before, Hart told Manny.
