The ‘Prometheus’ and ‘The Invitation’ star talks giant snakes, jungle survival and facing a monster you can’t see.
There are bad days at work. And then there are Logan Marshall-Green bad days at work — stranded deep in the Amazon with danger around every corner and a gigantic mythical snake somewhere in the water.
Welcome to “Beware Boiúna,” a creature feature that takes its inspiration from the legendary Boiúna, the enormous serpent of Amazonian folklore.
And yes, I had to ask Marshall-Green the obvious question: what went through his mind when a script about a giant mythical Amazon snake first slithered onto his desk?

I sat down with the actor to talk about stepping into the boots of Brennan Malloy, a man who may be nearly as dangerous as the creature hunting them.
What makes Malloy particularly interesting is that the menace doesn’t begin when the monster arrives. He’s already volatile, unpredictable and capable of frightening the people around him. So is he actually the villain of the story — or simply a man pushed far beyond his breaking point?
Marshall-Green and I also talked about making the movie in the Amazon around Leticia, Colombia, where the environment wasn’t simply a backdrop. The jungle became another character in the film.
And then there’s the Boiúna itself.
The movie wisely doesn’t immediately give us a full look at its monster, which meant Marshall-Green and his fellow actors had to create very real terror while sometimes reacting to something that wasn’t physically there.
That restraint also helps director Mike P. Nelson turn what could have been a straightforward monster movie into something grittier — part creature feature, part survival thriller.
Marshall-Green certainly knows something about characters trapped in extreme circumstances. From “The Invitation”and “Prometheus” to his work in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” he has repeatedly ventured into stories where civilization starts slipping away and survival takes over.
So naturally, I had one final question.
After surviving “Beware Boiúna,” if someone offered Logan Marshall-Green a lovely little humanitarian boat trip deep into the Amazon tomorrow… would he go?
Watch our interview above for his answer.
As for me?
ME NEITHER!
Unless Logan Marshall-Green — or Brennan Malloy — is coming with me.
Because “Beware Boiúna” is one sssssensational slither-fest! 🐍
