It’s a packed weekend at the movies, with fresh releases and a milestone celebration for a Hollywood classic.

Leading the new arrivals is Caught Stealing, starring Oscar nominee Austin Butler as a washed-up baseball player drawn into the dangerous world of gangsters. Based on Charlie Hewson’s novel—with Hewson himself penning the screenplay—the film marks Darren Aronofsky’s most mainstream effort yet. Critics say Butler’s charisma elevates the thinly written plot and helps soften the impact of the film’s graphic violence. The result is a gritty, entertaining crime drama that earns three out of four “grit-and-grime kisses” from the Movie Guy.

Also opening is The Roses, a sharp reimagining of Warren Adler’s 1981 novel and the 1989 film adaptation. Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch star as a couple whose marriage spirals into bitter rivalry, with Andy Samberg and Kate McKinnon adding comic relief as their friends. Directed by Jay Roach and scripted by Tony McNamara (The Favourite), the film blends biting satire with moments of melancholy, offering a modern meditation on love, greed, and collapse. It earns three and a half out of four “when-love-turns-to-hate kisses.”

Finally, a cinematic legend resurfaces: Steven Spielberg’s Jaws. The 1975 blockbuster that defined the modern summer movie season is back in theaters for its 50th anniversary. Alongside the re-release, fans can grab the Jaws at 50 Blu-ray edition, which features deleted scenes and a new documentary exploring the film’s enduring impact.

Whether you’re after thrills, laughs, or nostalgia, this weekend’s box office has plenty to offer.
