“Wicked: For Good” continues the story with Cynthia Erivo returning as Elphaba, now branded a traitor and known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Ariana Grande reprises her role as Glinda the Good, who must help the people of Oz feel safe despite lacking magical powers of her own.

Director Jon M. Chu returns for the sequel, which Manny says is significantly darker and more emotional than the first film. The movie explores the origins of iconic “Wizard of Oz” characters including the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, with Dorothy also making an appearance.

Manny says Act Two presents a larger scale than its predecessor, though the first film remains “more fun.” The sequel delves into themes of deception and fraud surrounding the Wizard of Oz, creating what Manny calls “heavy emotions” despite ending on a hopeful note.

Manny calls the film “an action-adventure soap opera with great songs and fantastic performances,” with audiences advised to prepare for emotional moments. Those unfamiliar with the Broadway musical should expect a notably darker tone in this second installment.
